Project Overview
Musawah, a global movement for equality and justice in Muslim family laws, launched the Campaign for Justice (CFJ) to advocate for reforms. I led the UX research, structure, and visual design of the campaign's microsite, covering the full design process from discovery to handover.
Problem & Goals
Searching for Muslim family law resources on the existing Musawah website was confusing and slow. Important resources like country law tables were hidden in large PDFs, making them difficult to navigate, especially on mobile.
- Goal: Make country law tables and campaign resources easier to find and filter.
- Goal: Ensure a lightweight, mobile-first experience for audiences in the Global South.
Design Process
Discovery & Research
We held kickoff meetings to define key problems and goals. An audit of Musawah’s law tables, blog posts, and advocacy materials revealed that the core resources were dense PDFs (30–60 pages each), which were overwhelming on mobile. Research into sites like the World Policy Center provided best practices for organizing heavy resource content.

Definition & Strategy
We identified four user groups: Policy Makers, Advocates, Academics, and Activists. Mapping their journeys highlighted critical frustrations around findability and mobile usability. This led to a clear design hypothesis: structured content by country and issue, with summaries and a mobile-first layout, would improve access globally.

Delivery
UX Solutions Delivered
We focused on clear, user centered solutions. Country law tables were redesigned into clean, print friendly layouts. A sticky side filter was implemented for faster navigation by country or issue on mobile, and a smart tagging system enabled easy exploration across related resources.

UI Guideline
To support future scalability, I developed a brand style guide covering the core color palette, typography hierarchy, layout grids, and UI component specifications.

Challenges & Outcomes
Solution: Organized into browsable country and topic pages.
Outcome: Easier and faster access to resources.
Solution: Lightweight, responsive design for slow networks.
Outcome: Improved reach for Global South users.
Solution: Structured templates ready for Arabic translation.
Outcome: Future proofed for expansion.
Reflection
This project demonstrated how clear structure and advocacy driven UX can turn dense resources into powerful, accessible tools for change. Through a user centered approach, we helped Musawah transform its world leading legal repository into a platform that supports activists, policymakers, and researchers pushing for meaningful family law reform globally.
